COULD YOUR TEENAGER BE USING DRUGS?
Drug use remains a serious problem for teenagers. Despite education in our schools and in the media, a large percentage of kids will try some kind of illegal substance at least once. Many will go on to use and abuse drugs, adversely affecting their lives in many ways. Not only are they committing a crime, but they also risk their health and safety and jeopardize their future. Too often, they put themselves on a difficult to reverse pattern of addiction and failure. Parents have also heard all the information about the danger of drugs but sometimes fail to recognize the signs of substance use in their own family. Kids can be expert at covering up and explaining away the signs and we want to believe the explanations. It can be extremely difficult to admit that your kid may be using drugs. However, if drugs are an issue, time and repeated use makes the problem harder to resolve. If your teenager has exhibited changes in behavior at home or at school, if his/her grades have fallen, if you see a difference in your teen's friendships or a failure to account for time, activities, etc. or you notice any other unusual or unaccountable changes in appearance or behavior, consider drug testing. The sooner you know if your teenager is experimenting with drugs, the sooner you can take steps to reverse the problem! Drug use is one problem you cannot hope they will outgrow. Inland Center Medical Group has a low-cost drug test that will indicate if your teenager is using any of these five illegal substances: marijuana, cocaine, opiates, amphetamines and methamphetamines. The test is simple and results are immediate. If results are positive, you can begin necessary steps to get your child some help before it's too late. Call us at 909 989-7551 for more information.

HEADACHE?
0ver 45 million people live with headache. It is the most common ailment that people experience though many choose to suffer rather than seek treatment. There are different types of headache, each with its own causes and symptoms. Tension Headache is the most common, representing up to 90% of all headaches. It is caused by a tightening of the muscles of the head and neck, usually felt as dull, diffuse pain, like a tight band around the head. Migraine Headache is believed to be caused by extreme constriction followed by dilation of blood vessels in the head. Severe, throbbing pain is often accompanied by nausea and vomiting, often with prior warning. Cluster Headache affects less than 1% of the population, predominantly men. Pain is severe, usually around one eye, temples or forehead, occurring in groups of headaches. Sinus Headache, the result of inflammation of the sinus cavities, is usually a dull ache that begins in the morning. Infection may be part of the cause and may get worse if untreated. 85% to 90% of headaches can be relieved by appropriate treatment. At Inland Center Medical Group, Dr. Molisen Ali, Board Certified Neurologist and founder of the Headache Medical Clinic of Southern California, offers evaluation and treatment. There is no reason to suffer or let headaches control your life. Call (909) 989-5551 to schedule an evaluation.

EAR INFECTION IN YOUNG CHILDREN
Next to the common cold, middle ear infection is the most common illness in children. Some children are more susceptible to middle ear infection than others. Factors such as day care center attendance, second-hand cigarette smoke and exposure to other children when first starting school can all make a difference. With a middle ear infection your child may exhibit one or more of these symptoms: fever, vomiting, irritability, loss of appetite, weakness, and pulling or rubbing the ear. The infection must be treated to avoid serious complications and even hearing loss. Always follow your doctor’s instructions about medication and follow-up appointments. You can help prevent middle ear infection by keeping your child away from smokers, not allowing babies to drink from bottles while lying down, and minimizing exposure to cold viruses with good hand-washing by adults who care for the child.

SOOTHING YOUR SORE THROAT
The cold and flu season brings millions of adults and children to their doctor for sore throats. Most are not serious and will heal with a little time and self-care. Usually the cause is viral infection associated with colds and flu. Other common causes include allergies, air pollution and irritation from dry heat in the home. In these cases antibiotics won't cure the sore throat and home remedies are the appropriate course of treatment. At times a sore throat is an indication of a serious problem and needs the attention of a physician. Possibilities include an infection by the Streptococcus bacteria, tonsillitis, and is often the main symptom of mononucleosis. See your doctor if you are in doubt if your sore throat is minor and especially if you have any of these symptoms: Difficulty swallowing liquids. Fever of 101 degrees or higher, or if your sore throat lasts longer than five days. A sore throat that comes on suddenly and is accompanied by a fever, rash, swollen neck glands, headache or bright red tonsils, usually with white patches. Difficulty breathing or swollen glands in your throat, armpits and groin, fever and chills and headache.
